Keith's "Den of Aviation"

An Aladdin’s cave of aviation memorabilia

Well known for his enthusiastic support of the “Vulcan to the Sky” Campaign, Keith is also an avid collector of aviation models and other memorabilia.

Like most society members, Keith’s interest in aviation started in his youth and he has been collecting for many years. He spent four years as an armourer, in the RAF, posted to 50 Sqn. at RAF Upwood and finished his service career at RAF Calshot.

His collection had grown to such a size that he decided to convert his garage into a shed, sorry “Den”, to house it. Officially opened by Jackie’s Mother, Diana, in February 1995. This event being suitably marked by a brass plaque on the door.

Inside, just about every square inch of wall and ceiling space is covered with a poster, photo, painting or other aviation collectable. Every piece of shelf space is crammed full of corgi die cast models and expertly constructed plastic scale models, many constructed by society member John Elkin. Liberally placed in amongst the models, limited edition porcelain plates and cups, American “Friendship coins” and badges fill in the gaps.

I am sure Keith would be only be too pleased to talk to you about his collection. Just remember to call it his “Den” and not a shed. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it!

Many thanks to Jackie and Keith for their hospitality while visiting, to take the photos for this article.
