Three men from
the Spitfire Flying club at Popham who crash-landed in a remote French
forest are thanking their lucky stars for a 40p plastic whistle. After
an amazing escape from their wrecked light plane, they took turns to
blow on the whistle. The sound enabled rescuers, who had to search for
them on foot because of bad weather, to locate the trio after a
three-hour hunt. They were taken to hospital with hypothermia and
relatively minor injuries.

refused listed status. Cultural minister Margaret Hodge said it does
not have "sufficient architectural or historic interest in a national
context to merit listing". Determined members of the RAF
Ibsley Historical Group who have
campaigned for years to restore the building, have vowed to continue

A High-profile
team has been set up to
turn the vision for a grand Spitfire memorial in Southampton into a
reality. The Spitfire Panel will take charge of fundraising and
investigate the feasibility and design of the memorial to the great

"Wicko" has won the prestgious Freddie March "Spirit of Aviaton" award in a

engineer and SHHAS member Robert Pleming has won a national award for
his work on leading the restoration of Vulcan XH558. Dr Pleming, chief
executive of the Vulcan to the Sky Trust was awarded Preservationist Of The Year 2007 by the Transport Trust,

Polly Vacher touches down at Southampton Airport Posted 12/07/07 The first

solo over the
North Pole Polly Vacher touched down at Southampton Airport yesterday.
The 63-years old's Wings Around
Britain mission will see her
fly into all 206 UK airfields in a bid
to raise money for Flying Schorlaships for the Disabled.
So far Polly & her team has

to finally honour the Spitfire
in Southampton have been unveiled today. A life-size bronze replica of
the famous fighter plane could
be erected on one of the major routes into the city. Campaigners, who
have been demanding
the city honours the plane and its designer - R J Mitchell - for years,
have welcomed the plans by council chiefs.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance starts operations 1st July 2007 Posted 5/6/07 The
Hampshire and Isle of Wight charity has announced the start date for
this lifesaving service. The Air Ambulance will take to the skies on
1st July 2007 and be out saving lives across the two areas. The
Aircraft will be based initially at Thruxton Airfield but is looking
for a more centrally located site within the area.
Plane grounded by swarm of bees. Posted 25/05/07 A Palmair Boeing 737 had to return to Bournemouth Airport, shortly after take-off at 8:10 a.m. on Thursday following an engine surge. The plane's engine was thought to have become clogged with bees, which may have caused possible damage to a fan. landed his
aircraft at Popham on Saturday and collapsed, dying later that evening
in hospital.
Among his many
aviation exploits he was famous for holding the world air speed
record - in 1953 he achieved 727.63mph in a Hawker Hunter - and was one
of the most decorated fighter pilots in WWII.
Official unveiling of the Sea Vixen in its new livery Posted 19/03/07 On Saturday
24th
March, de Havilland of Bournemouth is having an open day to officially
unveil the Sea Vixen in its new livery. A donation to the Sea Vixen
fund will enable you to get up close to the aircraft.
Unofficially,
it
is scheduled to fly on Wednesday 21st March in the morning (subject to
weather).

name will forever be associated with the Spitfire. Between 1940 and

The Spitfire Dawn to Dusk Challenge Posted 11/05/06 Despite the best attempts of the British weather the D2D team completed their flight on Thursday June 29 2006. Early morning fog prevented the team from departing until 7.00am from Southampton Airport. they were also weathered in at Coventry for a few hours due to haze. However rapid re-planning (both in the Ops Room and in the air) meant they still managed to visit 14 airfields and log nearly ten hours in the air.
